Black Sand and Sea Stacks

Famous for its black sands and sneaker waves, Iceland's Reynisfjara Beach is a photographer's dream. Basalt cliffs and sea stacks bookend the long stretch of black sands where Iceland meets the North Atlantic Ocean.

It is coming up on three years since our Iceland Adventure, and we consider ourselves lucky to have had the chance to take this amazing trip before the craziness and lockdowns of the past couple of years. We are looking forward to travelling to exciting new places soon!

This image was challenging in the mid day sun. In retrospect exposure bracketing might have given some more options, but the new masking tools in Lightroom have proven to be a great asset in getting the most out of an image like this one. I used something like six separate masks on this image, and am quite happy with the results.
