Hiking Blahnukur
Two years ago today we had a wonderful private photo tour to Iceland's highlands, and in particular the Landmannalaugar area. This was very much a highlight of our two week Iceland adventure.
In turn, a highlight of the highlands was the opportunity to hike a fair way up one of the mountains, Blahnukur. Starting from the base in Landmannalaugar, the climb up Blahnukur is quite steep, and in places on some very loose gravel. We certainly needed to take our time, and not let ourselves get too distracted by the amazing scenery while walking!
At the base there were quite a few hikers, but the numbers thinned out progressively the higher we got. There were a number, far more intrepid than us, who were undertaking a big hike across Blahnukur to another adjoining peak. But there were many moments when it was just the three of us taking in this absolutely incredible scenery.
Two years on words still fail me in describing the majesty and sheer scale of Blahnukur, Landmannalaugar and the Icelandic highlands.
