Kingston Sunset

The Kingston Foreshore area is a popular cafe and restaurant area of Canberra, Australia. Situated on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin, winter is a great time for sunset images shooting over the bay, taking in the restaurant strip.

Coming home from work I realised that this day would provide a promising opportunity for a dramatic sunset—something the ‘bush capital’ can offer throughout the year. I thought quickly about where to go, and grabbed my bag and walked around to this vantage point in the late Golden Hour.

I picked my spot based on the wonderful reflections, and trusted my instinct that this would be the right spot for an image.

A 3-stop ND filter provided a 2.3 sec shutter speed at f/8.0, giving me the look I was looking for.
