Kirkjufell Sunrise
Perhaps one of the most iconic mountain images in Iceland is Kirkjufell. I revisted the site on several occasions over our three days in Grundafjordur, and was rewarded with several beautiful variations. One of the key benefits of going at different times is that you can take more time to explore the site and experiment with different compositions and vantage points.
Going out at sunrise also has the advantage that fewer people turn up when compared with sunset, meaning less competition for vantage points, and reduced need to keep other people out of the scene!
While I am sure that this is far from the best image of this icon, it is perhaps my best image of this wonderful scene. The icons are iconic for a reason, and I love the challenge of capturing an image that takes me back to the experience. Being in Australia where overseas travel is currently not an option, reviewing these images really takes me back to the experience.
