Mulligans Flat Vertorama

Mulligans Flat Vertorama

Mulligans Flat is a wildlife sanctuary that lies on the northern edge of Canberra, Australia’s national capital. Due to the suburban lights to the south, west and east, the sanctuary’s pond needs to be shot at night with a northerly aspect, making it somewhat challenging to get great Milky Way images. Even facing north, the lights of Goulburn, a hundred kilometres away, create a distinct glow on the horizon.

For this image I chose to create a vertorama, stitching together several landscape images to create this portrait image.

As I often do, I created a timelapse at this location. Shot in a landscape format, the challenge of capturing the Milky Way is evident.

One of the fun things about creating a timelapse is that you have a lot of individual images to work with. You can create stacked images, pick the best image for a still, or create a time-slice, a single image created a blended from different images created throughout the shoot.
