Rainbow over Porcupine Rocks
We set out on a 6.5km hike from Perisher Valley on what was a very windy and overcast day, with intermittent rain. It would’ve been easy to call the hike before we even started but we decided to press on and see if the weather would improve. Reaching the peak at Porcupine Rocks, we were greeted not just with a welcome break in the weather and wonderful views of the Thredbo River Valley below, but also with a beautiful rainbow.
If you want rainbow, you have to deal with the rain. (Augustus)
Porcupine Rocks has several stunning vistas and is well worth it as a standalone hike, and is also a spot with great potential for landscape photographers. I’ll certainly be heading back, and plan to attack this track as a snowshow adventure.
This walk makes up part of the Charlottle Pass to Perisher leg of the Snowies Alpine Walk, and we made the hike this leg had not been opened to hiikers—although it opened just a couple of days later.
